The history of the estate dates back to 1890, when five Basque and Rioja-based vine growers created “Sociedad Vinicola De La Rioja Alta” in the Haro Station District. This was the beginning of a fascinating business venture where the dream of the founders was to craft and age high quality wines. In 1891, the company changed its name to “La Rioja Alta”. La Rioja Alta is widely recognised to be one of the finest wineries in the Rioja region. The estate has a history dating back over 100 years with the accumulated experience and knowledge being passed down through the generations and translated into the wines of the estate. The heartlands of La Rioja Alta are in the finest sites of the Rioja Alta region, with a further four wineries located in Spain’s most renown DOs. The Haro Estate of La Rioja Alta produces three Reservas and two Gran Reservas, as well as the unique Marques de Haro wine that is the passion of the winemaker, Julio Sáenz. The company still has enormous respect for the history and the original philosophy, which is still evident in how the wine is made today. Áster was created with wisdom, enthusiasm and great patience. We sought the best possible site following the advice of the Denomination’s best growers and different academic experts. We studied and analysed the soil, grapes and weather of different subzones. Anguix (Burgos) was finally selected as the ideal location and in 1991 we planted the vineyard on land we had purchased the previous year.
Deep, very dark-cherry red with a marked pink rim. Very intense bouquet, with aromas of raspberries and blueberries that soften the wood ageing notes —mocha, toffee, roasted coffee and liquorice. Good structure on the palate, with a pleasant acidity and sweet, enveloping tannins that give it a very pleasant palate. Lively aftertaste, with hints of liquorice, roasted coffee, and dark fruit.
