Established by the Kirk family in 1971. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Canberra in the small rural town of Murrumbateman, Clonakilla has established a status that belies its relatively small size. Clonakilla are a testament to the importance of story telling. With a rich family history stretching back to Ireland, the generational legacy has continued to be built in Australia, resulting in a well of rich narrative our creatives continue to draw from. Clonakilla means ‘Meadow of the Church’ and is the name of Dr Kirk’s grandfather’s farm in County Clare, Ireland. In 1997 Tim Kirk, the fourth of John’s six sons, took over responsibility for winemaking. The fruit comes from two adjacent, family-owned vineyards, the elevation is 600 metres above sea level. ‘Canberra District’ is the official geographical indicator for the winegrowing district around Canberra, Australia’s capital city. Inspired by the great wines of Cote Rotie in France’s Rhone Valley, Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier is widely regarded as one of Australia’s truly great red wines.
Stylish, fragrant aroma with hints of ginger and pepper. A dense and creamy white with cooked-mango and vanilla aromas and flavors. Full with lots of flavor and phenolic structure. Invisible oak. Clean and crisp, with intensity and power on the finish.
