Marcello Monzio Compagnoni began his career in wine by designing the cellars after his father in 1989 had bought vineyards in Cenato Sotto (Valcalepio). Later, in 1995, these cellars had to be sold and new ones were temporarily found in the Franciacorta area, some 20 kilometres away. After his father’s passing away, Marcello took over all responsabilities. Today that means taking care of 20 hectares of vineyards in Franciacorta and 14 hectares in Valcalepio. At only twenty years old, he was inspired not by family tradition or necessity, but by his passion and commitment as well as his modern approach to winemaking. By 1989 he was producing oak aged red and white wines, with his first sparkling endeavour appearing on the market in 1991. Driven by a desire to expand into new territory, in 1995 Marcello bought land in Adro with the intent of producing high-quality Franciacorta. On this land was a classic farmhouse that he restored and made into a functional cellar with modern equipment while still respecting the original architecture. Monzio Compagnoni’s Franciacorta each go through a specifically tailored production process to create distinctive products that reflect Marcello’s dedication to winemaking.
Straw yellow in colour, perlage is fine and persistent. Dominating aromas come from white fruit such as apple and pear, but also from the husk of walnut. Excellent final notes of grapefruit. Complex in taste, dry, hints of different fruits help to balance the sweetness. The strong level of acidity is made fresh by notes of mandarin.
