Rhuby started off as a thought many years back. It is the brainchild of spirits and brand guru Ylva Binder, having more than 20 years in the international drinks industry. She has worked with brands such as Bacardi, Bombay Sapphire, Dewar’s, Grey Goose, Martini, Glenfiddich, Hendrick’s, The Balvenie, Sailor Jerry’s, Monkey Shoulder, Absolut, Greenall’s and also created from inception; Svensk Vodka, Bloom Gin and Berkeley Square, all launched to market. Having had a childhood in Sweden where ‘moon-shine’ and illegal production of alcohol (due to prohibitive alcohol taxation) she started creating her own recipes far earlier than she could consume them. Along with a father who had an avid interest in herbs and spices for the traditional SNAPS, Ylva had a tendency to go for the fruits and sweeter variants. Together they blended, nosed and laughed at their creations, frequently blended and matured in her mother’s cooking pots.
The premium nature of the precious stone Ruby, the catharctic and ethereal qualities of a rhubarb and above all the unusual letter Y. A letter important to Ylva. The ruby is a pink to blood-red coloured gemstone. Most people mistake it for the red only, encompassing the passion and love. The red colour is caused mainly by the presence of the element chromium and its’ name comes from Ruber – Latin for red. The Ruby however can also be a very light pink pending on the amounts of Chromium. The ruby is considered one of the four precious stones, together with the sapphire, the emerald, and the diamond. Rhuby is a mixture of the Rhubarb origin in the drink, but also the premium aspect of the Ruby. Both encompassing the light pink colour of the liquid.
