The climate of north-eastern Tasmania is certainly cool with many similarities to some of the great winemaking regions of Europe. The Tamar Ridge vineyard was established by Josef Chromy in 1994 when a decision to establish a vineyard in the West Tamar region was made. In its first two years in the market, Tamar Ridge Wines have made some major strides in establishing its reputation as a producer of premium wines. A string of wine show successes and glowing reviews from the Australian wine media provide ample reinforcement that the winemaking team are getting it right.
Bright crimson red with purple tints. Deep, ripe plum fruit aromas with touches of mulberry and brambleberry and a subtle undertone of smoky oak. Ripe flavours of dark plum, mulberry and loganberry dominate the front of the palate and flow through to a finish with fine, silky tannins and sufficient acidity to add structure to balance the rich fruit flavours of this wine. Barrel maturation has added a layer of spicy oak complexity without dominating the fruit.
